Texas Stream Team
General Information

The mission of Texas Stream Team is to facilitate environmental stewardship by empowering a statewide network of concerned volunteers, partners, and institutions in a collaborative effort to promote a healthy and safe environment through environmental education, data collection, and community action.

Texas Stream Team is a program of Texas State University's River Systems Institute. We are a network of trained volunteers and supportive partners working together to gather information about the natural resources of Texas and to ensure the information is available to all Texans. Established in 1991, Texas Stream Team is administered through a cooperative partnership between Texas State University, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Currently, hundreds of Texas Stream Team volunteers collect water quality data on lakes, rivers, streams, wetlands, bays, bayous, and estuaries in Texas. We provide water quality monitoring workshops, public and school presentations about non-point source pollution prevention, and maintain volunteer water quality data in a publicly accessable database.
