New to hiking? Need hiking buddies? We’ve got you covered!

Join a park ranger for our Backcountry Buddies hike! During our journey through Hill Country State Natural Area’s backcountry trails, we will share best practices for hiking, tips and tricks for new hikers, leave no trace principles, and memorable experiences.

• Trail(s): We will be hiking portions of the Wilderness and Spring Branch Trails. This will be a challenging hike and we will be traversing rugged terrain.
• Length: 5.8 miles, 4 hours total (based on pace of the group).
• What to bring: Plenty of water (we do not have potable water) sturdy hiking shoes, hats, sunscreen, snacks for the trail.
• Fees: Free with park admission. Park entrance fees are $6 per adult (13 years of age and older), free for children under 13.
• Sign-up: Please arrive to HQ with plenty of time to pay day-use fees and to sign up for the hike. Backcountry Buddies is limited to 10 people. Sign-up will be located inside HQ and is on the day of the hike only.
• Note: Backcountry Buddies is subject to cancellation due to weather and trail conditions. Be sure to call headquarters the day of the hike to ask if the trails are open!
