Description:

What plant superpowers can you discover on a walk?

Did you know that plants have superpowers? That's right, our native plants have some pretty spectacular superpowers that help them to survive! (For example: spines on a cactus!)

To celebrate native plant week, let’s take a walk to observe plants in their natural habitat.  We will try to find as many examples as we can of these plant superpowers. After the walk, participants will gather at the amphitheater to discuss what we found and why these things represent the success of local plants.

Masks are highly encouraged, and physical distancing guidelines will be in place.

Due to statewide COVID-19 restrictions, this event is limited to 10 people, and preregistration is required.

Who: The whole family! All ages are welcome.

Bring: Drinking water, dress for the weather, and wear close-toed shoes. Masks are highly recommended as well!

Meet: At the amphitheater behind the Discovery Center.

Know before you go: This program involves sitting in the amphitheater, walking an easy trail less than 1 mile round-trip, and standing. Trail is mostly level, with a few rocky areas. There are some narrow rocky areas where a stroller may have to be carried.

Cost/registration:  Park programs are free with a Texas State Parks pass or park entrance fee - $7 per person ages 13 and up, kids 12 and under are always free!

**Important! Please reserve your park Day Pass reservation online ahead of time to guarantee park entrance (even if you have an Annual Parks Pass). You can do this up to 30 days in advance with your credit card, or for free with your Annual Texas State Park Pass. If you don't have a reservation and the park is sold out, you will not be able to enter the park. During the fall we normally sell out of weekend Day Use passes about a week in advance. Check availability and reserve a Day Pass online here: https://texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/

Ask us! We want our programs to be a fun outdoor experience for all. If there's anything we can do to help, please ask, either via email or phone, or at the time of the program.
